My mother was a seamstress. My beta shop has known me for thirty years. They kept asking me to build them something that fits how they work. So I did.

The story

A seamstress's son, a customer for thirty years.

Darrell Bilbrey grew up around a sewing machine. His mother was a seamstress, so he learned early what a garment represents: a promise made to a customer, kept by hand.

As an adult he became a customer of one shop in Birmingham, Alabama, and stayed one for thirty years. He watched the same thing happen that happens in tailoring and alterations shops everywhere. The work was excellent. The information about the work lived in one person's head, on paper tags, and on a printed sheet that was out of date by lunch.

The shop knew it. They kept asking him to build something that fit how they worked, rather than something they would have to work around. Alter-Sync is that something. It was built in that shop, with that shop, and it earned its place there before anyone else saw it.
